W1_INDRA_TUCKMAN ASSESMENT

1.            Problem Recognition, Definition and Evaluation
The problem for first blog posting assessment is determine what stage my Team is using Tuckman’s Stages  and use the result to determine which LEADERSHIP STYLE is required to be using.
Tuckman Stage used to determine the team development into four stages (Forming, Storming, Norming, & Performing, in 1970 he added Adjourning as the fifth stage).  It consist of 32 questionnaires need to be answered by the team member.

Test Result
Figure 2. Test Result
Based on the result, the total highest score is Norming stage

2.            Development of  the Feasible Alternatives to determine the Leadership Style
There are 4 main LEADERSHIP STYLES based on  Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Theory :
a.     Telling, Leader tell what and how to do
b.    Selling, Leader “sell” the message to get the team onboard by provide information and direction.
c.     Participating, Leader focus on the relationship, works with the team, and shares decision-making responsibilities
d.    Delegating, Leader monitor the progress and less involved in decision

3.            Develop the outcomes for each alternative
“Telling” & “Selling” style are focused on getting  the task done, “Participating” & “Delegating” style are more concerned with developing abilities to work independently.

4.            Selection of the acceptable criteria.
Norming stage describe the team as follows :
-       The team member already have one goal
-       The team member able to take the responsibilities
-       There are knowledge sharing between team member each other
The acceptable criterion could be to develop the norming stage to performing stage. It means the team should maintain the responsibilities sharing to improve the knowledge sharing into knowledge creation

5.            Analysis and comparison of the alternatives
By understanding each member already know and do their responsibilities well, it is better to choose the leadership style which concerned in developing abilities to work independently. “Participating” or “Delegating” may be the acceptable alternatives for the team leadership style
Based on criteria the team should maintain the responsibilities sharing, “Delegating” style can’t be use to the team because the team not yet achieving the excellent responsibilities sharing constantly as Performing stage
Figure 3. Leadership Style Selection for Norming Stage Team

6.            Select the preferred alternative
Participating style is the preferred leadership style because the team is still need the leader involvement to keep the responsibilities sharing is working. The test result show the Performing score is the 2nd highest score (28) after Norming score (32). It indicates the team may be in the transition phase. It is terrible to destructive the team collaboration that already constructed just because the leader does not involve monitor the team achievement sustainability.

7.            Performance Monitoring & Post Evaluation of Result
The implementation result of the alternative be recorded on weekly report that submitted by each member to Program Manager. The Program Manager compile, analyze and report to Mr. Paul as Program Sponsor. In this report we can monitor the team performance under the Participating leadership style

  1. WOW!!!! OUTSTANDING posting, Pak Indra!!! Really nice job. One of the best examples of this assignment I have ever seen!! Definitely will be using this as a reference for future classes to look at.

You followed our "Step by Step" process perfectly and your content was very well done. Funny, accurate and informative. WOW!!

Plus you did a fine job of citing your references using APA format.

Bottom line- One of the very best W1 postings I have ever seen and I am really looking forward to seeing future postings like this as well as your paper.

Keep up the great work and given you clearly understand what I am looking for, I hope you will help support your colleagues who are struggling to understand the 7 Step Process?
